Department of MICROBIOLOGY

About the Department

Department of Microbiology

The Department of Microbiology was introduced in the year 2009 in Gramgeeta Mahavidyalaya, Chimur. Currently the Department has two dedicated, energetic Teachers staff .  The Department of Microbiology offers under graduate course and Post graduate course. The course is completely under the academic syllabi of University of Gadchiroli. The B.Sc. in Microbiology at present has the Four years Undergraduate program (FYUGP) as envisaged in the NEP 2020.

The Department has basic research facility with laboratory equipped with advance instruments. The department regularly host seminars, webinars, workshop and special lectures by distinguished personalities in the field of Life Sciences. Students are given regular exposure to practical based knowledge via Industrial visit, Pathology visits and field visits. The Department is in association with national body “Microbiology Society of India (MBSI)” from the year 2021 which works for popularising the subject and encouraging and supporting young Microbiologists. MBSI provides platform for students to attend various lectures on subject matter and also honour them with best student award every year. The study in the department is not limited to pen and paper but students are also encouraged and asked to deliver their presentation on the topic related to the syllabus via PowerPoint presentation. For the last 5 years the department has been getting 100% success in university examination. The Department also provides an environment that fosters continuous improvement and innovation in subject. The alumni of the department have achieved many heights around the state.

Features

Salient Points:

  • The field’s breadth is vast, owing to microbiology’s involvement across various sectors such as medicine, pharmacy, dairy production, industrial settings, clinical research, water management, agriculture, chemical technology, and nanotechnology.
  • Microbiological studies significantly contribute to unraveling the complexities of life through the manipulation and understanding of microorganisms, resulting in a growing global demand for microbiologists.
  • Microbiology represents one of the most expansive and intricate branches of the biological sciences, embracing numerous diverse biological disciplines.
  • Medical microbiologists often function as invaluable consultants for healthcare practitioners, offering pathogen identification and recommending suitable treatment modalities. Their responsibilities extend to identifying potential community health hazards and monitoring the emergence of potentially virulent or drug-resistant microbial strains, as well as community education and healthcare protocol design.
  • Through the meticulous study of pathogen characteristics, modes of transmission, infection mechanisms, and growth patterns, medical microbiologists contribute to the development of tailored treatment regimens based on empirical data and scientific insights.
