A tree plantation drive has been organized from August 12 to 15, 2026, under the eco-friendly campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (A Tree in Mother’s Name), through the joint efforts of the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit, the Department of Botany, and the Department of Environmental Science of Gramgeeta Mahavidyalaya, Chimur, in collaboration with Sugat Kuti, Malewada. The campaign was launched amidst an enthusiastic atmosphere on Wednesday, August 12, at Sugat Kuti, Malewada.
As part of this initiative, a total of 55 saplings of various tree species—including Jackfruit, Custard Apple, Guava, Amla, Mahua, Neem, Wood Apple (Kavath), Bael, Almond, and Jarul—were planted within the Sugat Kuti premises. Following the plantation, the attendees took responsibility for the care and nurturing of the saplings.
The event was attended by a large number of people, including Gramgeeta Mahavidyalaya Principal Dr. Sunanda Aswale; Sugat Kuti Management Committee members Shantaramji Shende, Lahuji Gajbhiye, Kawaduji Meshram, and Ashikji Ramteke; alumnus Yogesh Meshram; Jaitvan Buddha Vihar office-bearers Sangamji Bhimte and Kashinathji Gajbhiye; as well as college faculty, non-teaching staff, NSS volunteers, and students.
While addressing the students, Principal Dr. Sunanda Aswale highlighted the importance of trees in maintaining environmental balance. She emphasized that it is everyone’s social responsibility not merely to plant trees but also to regularly nurture the saplings that have been planted. She further stated that such initiatives are consistently needed to foster an awareness of environmental conservation among students.
NSS Programme Officer Dr. Bijankumar Shil, Head of the Botany Department Dr. Mrunal Warhade, and Prof. Vivek Manik from the Department of Environmental Science provided details about the initiative, noting that… Another 55 saplings of various tree species are set to be planted on the premises of Gramgeeta College between August 13 and August 15, 2026. Students and NSS volunteers will be entrusted with the responsibility of nurturing these saplings, aiming to spread the message of environmental conservation through the practice of tree care.
Implemented under the emotional and eco-friendly concept of “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (A Tree in Mother’s Name), this campaign is successfully fostering environmental sensitivity, a sense of social commitment, and a sense of responsibility towards tree conservation among the students.
